There's this idea that with right people you wont have to pretend which is barely true (if we dont count places like org as proper socialization).
But is it possible? Considering how important multigenerational family was in the past, considering you always had to please elders, it seems unlikely people were honest either. Obv they werent dissociated 24/7 like we are and thwy likely didnt know there was an option to put this distinction in words but they had the feeling.
It's pretty depressing to thik about this. Esp knowing that under "the mask" there's nothing so unique/dangerous,yet you still will never fully express it
