is there actually any published studies that show a rest day is essential for optimal hypertrophy?

I often hear a rest day is essential to optimize muscle hypertrophy but i have never seen any source of research which proves this. To me it sounds like cope from lazy people.

hypertrophy is poorly understood and the mechanisms vary completely between individuals.

even if all the participates responded better to more rest, that doesn't mean you will.

I have many friends who follow carefully planned science based™ routines for maximum efficiency, accurately track their macros, get plenty of rest, and have a coach overseeing all of it that still make less progress than I do chucking a bar above my head once a week and eating whatever I want.

yes exactly. Ive done the most progress of my friends the last year and gym everyday. PPL also makes gives every muscle group roughly 48 hours to rest. I dont understand how it would benefit to add a rest day to that.

if youre sore or not able to get good sets then you rest. if not then dont. fitness is 99% pseudoscience and nobody knows wtf is going on.

u dont need a rest day for PPL. thats the whole point of it. that advice is for people who do full body.

yeah that exactly what im thinking. But literally everyone is brainwashed that you need one. It doesnt make sense

A rest day is not necessary, all that matters is that give each muscle group a 1-3 day rest before hitting it again.

dude no lumberjack from the past would take a "rest day" when chopping tree's so as not to get his triceps sore

no caveman (most of whom looked like professional bodybuilders from the pics i've seen) had a "rest day" when hunting wooly mammooths

that is a cope invented on reddit

i train arms 7 days a week to try and get those 22 inch biceps

i want those 22's baby and right now i'm rocking 13's

just listen to your body, if you go to workout and your muscles are still shaky or you can only do 2-3 reps youre training that group too early again, its different for everyone but ive found creatine speeds up my recovery
