Is there any substance to therapists saying you can choose to act a certain way despite your emotions telling you otherwise?

I’ve had two different therapists say something to this effect after I brought up LDARing
They say that at the end of the day it’s still my choice to LDAR
And if I can choose to LDAR (which may even be appropriate sometimes) then I can choose to not LDAR
And the road to making the choice is realising through introspection that LDARing is actually making me feel like shit (most of the time)
Is playing mind games like this with yourself a legit way to fight subhuman dopamine genes?

@Gaygymmaxx is this how Goggins did it?

that approach will only get them to roll their eyes, very counter-productive

the best method is researching types of meds online, symptoms and conditions they are prescribed for, and then larping about having those symptoms without even hinting at the specific drug

It is not only possible, but normal tbh. I can easily conduct myself even when I don't feel like it. Do you really have such weak self-control?

I know you could cure LDARing instantly in the short term with drugs but it wasn’t sustainable for me so trying to find a way to do it drug free.

oh, i completely misunderstood your question

there probably is, but drive, self-discipline and willpower are mostly genetic

Lol. I guess self-control is genetic too. Imagine not having good enough genes to control not good enough genes. Over.
Everything is impossible… @_MVP_

Feels good, like a good day’s work

You have no free will

I'm not going to lie to you, it probably is some middle ground. For now I tell you to bring positive things to your life that could give you motivation. LTR a 300 lbs landwhale, meet up with me, idk just smth that can give happyness and bounce you back with motivation.

Injecting T and HGH can be another (additional) option. And yh practice self control. I feel like its within your means.

Obviously it's partially true. You have some control, but not entirely.
