is tret better than taz?

is it just me or does tret improve skin quality more than taz. ive been on taz (0.1%) for around 3 months now and was on tret (0.05%) for around 3-4 months before and had healthier looking skin on tret. i know taz has a greater specificity while binding to the retinoid receptors but ive experienced less irritation and a very slight drop in skin quality.
