I’ve been editing for 6years, depending on how good I am, could vfx be a high value skill for any sort of success

lmao you have no idea what your talking about
editing is hella diverse if you like music u can edit small artists mvs for money some pay you for making edits to their music if you get decent views
you can just post edits on tiktok and you can sell project files or assets
i can go on and on you obviously never opened up after effects in your life and i doubt you built yourself a social media platform

yes, but the hardest part is getting customers. most of video editors are freelancers.

if you are lucky you can become official edittor of some company or youtube channel idk, if you dont live in US and get a tier 1 country customers you can live like a king in third world.

Otherwise its probs same tier as Software Engineer depending on the expertise idk.

It's not false, it's only high income if it can be monetised correctly. What he said regarding courses and project files is true.

Problem is, now we have models such as Seedance 2.0. After Effects? For any beginner, it's pointless. Video editing will only be helpful at the absolute highest levels. This statement would have held up good a couple years back, but now times change. Day by day it's becoming less and less valuable.

Shouldve applied for K. Shami's short form content editor since youre on looksmaxx anyway, also yes its a good skill

good points

plain ignorance
No, you're just wrong. Absolute pipe dream to believe video editing is a high value skill. 99% of people don't need a video editor for jack shit, on the other hand 99% of people need plumbers, electricians, welders, landscapers, farmers, etc. so the idea that video editing can somehow fall under the same umbrella as actually high value skills is delusional. If you think selling assets or doing shitty odd jobs for "niche" music producers who cap out at 300 monthly listeners is an important skill I wish you luck in life because it might be over for you. Not even going to address what you said about TikTok edits and social media because that's utterly laughable.

More a hobby/ niche than a high value skill

Very easy to learn m8
And everyone’s creating content now..

must’ve glanced over “high value” but still my point this stands your talking about it like it’s something you could only make 1 dollar for i have mutuals that made 10k in just a few months doing the methods i mentioned and more not even that you can build yourself a platform and branch off that i gained 10k followers just from edits and i used that to get collabs/parterships that weren’t related to editing

$10k is literal table scraps in 2026 son. Even with connections this type of industry is expendable by every possible definition. 6 figures is the bare minimum to live a semi-decent life in the USA nowadays and making Jordan Barrett edits is not the way to get there. If you want to have fun and build up some leftover funds to spend on material goods or whatever else that's fine but its incompatible long term.

It could be something to take in consideration if you know how to monetize it and have already a big portfolio

been editing content professionally for 5years, yes it's a high value skill but not if you're getting paid per video

only way to live off fulltime editing is through retainers. u can freelance on the side if you want but you can't rely on it.
stack the right retainers (in something that is not the entertainment niche) and u can get to 10k/month IF UR SMART

seriously, avoid the entertainment niche. they expect the most time-consuming edits just to keep their 12yr old audience staring at the screen
(unless you can find a large, well-off creator who doesn't expect 50 animations/video)

i'm not making 10k a month off just editing or anything, rn i edit in the fitness niche on retainer. editing also builds the much more valuable skill of social media

ignore poorcel replies, and keep going if u really fw editing. opens a lot of things up (namely, online entrepreneurship)
