i am slightly paranoid, so when I see embeds to other sites i usually research them

researching what file Vocaroo uses, it said mp3

checking mp3 safety, it said mp3's are typically safe but technically can have malware

usually if there is bad intentions, i think it's unlikely to come from someone here and that a vocaroo (hypothetically) will have a malware put into it by a user here uploaded in it (i haven't used it so i'm not entirely sure but i am sure you can upload a file into it), meaning that theres either no bad intentions or it (hypothetically) comes from Vocaroo

why would (hypothetically) Vocaroo place malware or spyware into their files?

well, typically Vocaroo is used by forums, never on youtube or applications in popular areas (messages, facetime)

forums are typically older places of the internet and most people who still use forums online are usually not as normal

so it is possible that vocaroos used on other forums, hypothetically if spyware is on them, you could catch a significant amount of users by placing spyware on their computer (including lurkers)

now that there is explanation of a potential motive, if they theoretically did this, now I have my rationale to continue researching

the first thing i did was search up who owns it

it didn't give it away, it is a private company so thats understandable

still, if they don't want to give that away, maybe i could find other details (country it was created in, if its safe etc)

their domain on a WHOIS lookup just returned

No details, makes sense for a private company, but after this I searched up the building

It's a building in Minnesota, has 30 employees

Apparently the building is "Public Healthcare Facility"? It does look large, but I guess thats common with a building with a lot of data servers in it to host the audios, probably a mistake on the website information.

I checked the wayback machine, checked back to 2010 and checked the information tab, couldn't find too much information.

The only real odd thing I could find was the twitter posts are posted from 3:20 AM to 3:33 PM (about) in Minnesota time.

12 hour time period, this is on work hours, typically work is 8 hours, so for a company of 30 people, this isn't really a possible time span for a social media manager in Minnesota, likely two countries posting.

Assuming it's a 9-5, the earliest is London, converting 3:20 Minnesota time (CDT) to BST, this is the earliest logical work time, at 9:20 AM

Employee arrives at 9 AM; sets up computers and gets ready to work for about 15 minutes, makes a post in twitter 5 minutes at 9:20 AM.

Works until 5 PM, so that would be 1 PM for our next worker from the maximum country possible, so looking for a timezone 4 hours behind the UK gives us China

So, UK - China, we want a region inbetween that covers this, so UTC+3 or +4 belongs to the country that is posting on this twitter account (in theory). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTC+03:00, this should show most countries in +3 and +4.

So, it is possible that Vocaroo, in theory, is spyware, or atleast has a potential for malware.

Recap: I think it is safe to use, unless you have paranoia like me and would prefer to be safer. Still, all things considered, it is possible that the company is spy from any UTC +3 or +4 country.
