Islam is not violent by nature, especially when compared with the 7th Century world standards. But Islam has a very good system to defend itself from foreign influence when compared to the rest of ideologies in the world. It is possibly the only one from the ancient world that is still fighting liberalism on a high scale.

The Qur'anic texts and Hadiths are filled with verses promoting peace and forgiveness, it just doesn't sell to show them in the media. And the ones who talk about war, 99% of them are out of context, just bring me Qur'anic verses of war and i will bring you the context of it, the verses before and after, etc, i have done this more than once in this place.

Now i'm not saying i'm buying into that "Religion of Peace" stuff and all of that, i believe that Islam should be defined as "The Religion of Truth and Justice" since i believe every Islamic ruling leads to such. But, of course, we have also texts of war, of how to engage in a war, how to react when attacked, etc etc etc, and we have both concepts of defensive and offensive war under certain circumstances, as for example, if a country kills a emissary of the muslims. We are not a coward religion that hides behind temples in that regard. But, at the same time, in a war it is prohibited to kill women, to kill children, to kill the elderly, to even harm trees, etc. In a world in which it was all "Dominate or be Dominated", this is pretty merciful to say the least. We can't say the same about judeochristianity which was the other big ideology of the time, which directly promotes killing civilians and cattle in war, and other henious acts. Or we could compare the treatment of slaves in Islamic Scripture and the treatment of slaves in Judeochristian scripture, and other several matters in comparation with the rest of dominant ideologies at the time.

For 7th century world standards, Islam was by far the most merciful ideology in the entire planet. Just think about it, if we conclude that the person who knows the most about the Qur'an is the Prophet, then after 98% of the Qur'an was revealed, the Prophet (alayhi a salat wa salam) and his army took over Mecca and instead of following the arab practice of slaughtering the surrendering enemies (who by the way, tortured and waged war against him and his followers for years and years), he just forgave them. Even the person who killed one of his most beloved uncles was forgiven and the Prophet told him something along the lines of "I forgive you but i don't want to see your face" because of the pain that person committed to him.

Again, this was after aproximately 98% of the Qur'an was already revealed, yet the Prophet proceeded to act this way. Anyone who studies the ancient world knows that Islam was extremely merciful in this regard.

And don't waste much time in this place, it is a waste of resources.
