Simple low effort explanation of the differences between the two
1. Both are vitamin A derivatives (retinoids). that’s where the similarity ends. one is a topical you put on your face, the other is a systemic drug that rewires how your skin functions at a biological level. not the same tier of intervention at all.
2. ISOTRETINOIN (accutane) what it actually does
∙ shrinks sebaceous glands permanently
∙ cuts oil production by 80-90%
∙ prevents pores from clogging
∙ kills acne bacteria
∙ reduces inflammation systemically
This is why so many people never get acne again after one “cycle.” Dry eyes, skin, lips, nosebleeds, photosensitivity, and joint pain are main sides. These sides are always blown way out of proportion with simple preventions almost all sides are negligible
3. (Trent) what it does
∙ accelerates skin cell turnover
∙ prevents pores from congesting
∙ fades PIH (post inflammatory hyperpigmentation) over time
∙ improves overall texture
Weeks 1-8 your skin will peel, flake, and look rough. this is normal. your skin is adjusting. most people who say tret “didn’t work” quit during this window. use a gentle moisturizer, don’t stack other actives and it will go away fairly quickly this also varies on the strength
This isn’t supposed to be crazy in depth just simple comparison for people who are looking at each option(just do accutane) if you want your acne to go away
