You can get lucky.

But learning a business and getting to the point of generating revenue is a process of trying, failing, coming up with a new hypothesis on how to succeed next time, testing your hypothesis, failing, gathering more data, coming up with a new hypothesis or refining your old hypothesis, repeat.

With crime, you don't get that same process of learning, how not to get caught, because one mistake and you have a criminal record.

So, Silk road, and it's successor both made one small mistake early on, and both corrected their mistakes and tried to erase all data as soon as they could, but it was too late, and both got caught. Now one is dead and the other is in jail for life.

That, and crime fighting technologies are increasing in capabilities.

What we are headed to is what I call a personality fingerprint. This will be possible even if you use a VPN that the U.S. government somehow doesn't have a backdoor into. Because the way you think and type, can be used to identify you.

This then becomes a digital simulation of you, and can be used to simulate your possible behaviors, and then look for the clues that those behaviors would leave behind. Essentially, we are all unique, and the way you would choose to go about solving any problem is different from how some one else would solve it.

This will all be quite trivial for Ai to connect the dots in the future.

So not only do you have to be smarter than billions of dollars of resources, man-power, and government hackers, but you have to be smarter than the artificial super intelligence of the future, which is coming faster than most people expect, and all of the Ai hackers that never sleep, and never stop learning.
