in 90s / early 2000s young ppl seemed to have a greater engagement in like more niche music styles and everyone watched MTV. now generic pop music is more dominant and zoomers in general have less engagement with music / film culture, like nobody cares about musicians image aesthetic or personal life whereas ppl would like mimic kurt cobain (lol) and have their personal style influenced by le alt shit. the mumble rap era was like the last time ppl seem influenced by musicians to such a degree as in the 90s and early 2000s. nobody really seems interested in the personal lives / aesthetics of musicians nor do musicians seem to act in like non mainstream ways.
it's same with anime where it used to be limited to like poor aspie LTNs, kind of person who'd live with a single parent and would buy a cheap metal katana at the mall but now it's like fairly mainstream. this is why malcom in the middle's intro has an anime reference, those guys are the ppl who were into anime not giga aspie weebs and normies who only watch shonens.
it's different with gaming at least where it's become more mainstream but more culturally distinct, like anyone whose into watching streamers and online normie games like league has like instant rapport with anyone else like this. gaming used to be more niche / aspie but at the same time it was mostly just zoomer normies who had consoles who'd grow out of it, but now it's like to a point where gaming dude is like new genre of person.
