I arrived an hour earlier than I was supposed to in order to meet up with my mentor teacher. They said they would be introducing me as their colleague because otherwise the students won’t respect me or whatever and they wanted me to receive the same respect as they do.

I decided to sit all the way in the back. Once in class, I heard no references to looksmaxxing, but I did hear a bunch of 7th graders telling each other “sybau” constantly. Also, I couldn’t stop laughing inside because I had multiple classes come in no one looked at me like “WTF is this bearded man doing in our classroom?” They acted as if it was the most normal thing in the world.

One of the students asked me if I was going to teach them as well, I said not right now but that I would and then one of his friends got so happy haha. Bless his heart.

Also, the one student who I thought for sure was gonna make a comment being weirded out about me since he was clowning on his classmates just looked at me for a few seconds and then gave me a head nod, and at the end of the class he gave me a fist bump before leaving.

So yeah - i can relate in every way. don't sweat it, things will get better bhai.

Thank you bhaijaan. Yeah haha, but ngl I prefer being upfront but oh well. They were 7th graders, so I think they’re 13ish. Maybe 14 if they were held back. If this was America, this would be considered middle school. They don’t consider “brugklas” to be high school over there. But I’m probably going to be seeing more classes, I’ll probably have to deal with 8th and 9th graders as well. Tweedegraads docenten mogen namelijk alleen de onderbouw doceren. Slechts als je een eerstegraads docent ben, mag je de bovenbouw ook les geven. Om eerstegraads docent te worden, moet je slechts een master volgen na je bachelor.

Like yeah it’s the reality of things, but shoot, I’m not supposed to be poisoning their minds like that.
