AFD gains majority of its support from east germany itself and plays a lot to older voters who have DDR nostalgia, has pro russian tendancies, strict immigration policies and nationalist tendancies, which makes itself far more closer to the old east german state than parties like Die Linke which actually argue for and want socialism, very funny to see in german politics and shows how different the modern left wing is to the original socialists/communists in the eastern bloc
