It’s kind of weird how we have this level of consciousness in this level of reality

I mean what are the chances

That were 2 legged creatures with the ability to perceive everything and are meta aware of all of it

And the possibility of agentic free will, which breaks the deterministic physics we observe in nearly every other part of the universe besides the actions of sentient beings

Why even is that

It makes me think it’s too good to just be chance / random unintentional design

Probably, I bet there’s some kind of bacteria at least with how vast reality is

I personally believe in God, I can’t fathom what else could create this whole system of reality that just “came into existence suddenly”

I mean yeah but we don’t know that we’re fully conscious or aware, some other advanced being might sneer at us and our pitiful intelligence

even the earliest humans believed in some sort of higher being, ex: african polytheism/animism

Yeah, that’s mostly just out of pure faith though
do believe that god is just? do you believe in right and wrong?

yeah because they were brainwashed

in nature you wouldn’t believe in a “god”

maybe you would worship the sun but that’s about it

there are many natural phenomenons that are close to miracles

Whether god is just or not is entirely dependent on human morality, which isn’t even objective, kant was wrong about this in my opinion
For example in 3rd world countries female genital mutilation and honor killings are socially acceptable, whereas they’re considered barbaric in the west
So i think we can’t say

I believe God is just in the sense that Justice itself is derived from God, that comes first

I haven’t thought that much about demons tbh

brainwashed by who :hnghn:
people just lived their whole lives only seeing family and a few others, groups weren’t big enough to have developed social hierarchy at the time belief in a higher power came into being

exactly haha they got brainwashed by their friends & family

what about conscience

the euphoric feeling of and intrinsic urge to act a way that is unnatural in the animalistic world

for example giving up something of your own to help a random stranger

you cannot prove that conscience is evidence of a higher power

it’s simply a religious belief

Additionally the idea of what god even is differs greatly from culture to culture
The ancient mesopotamians viewed their gods as vengeful, merciless and impulsive, which was a direct result of their shitty environment (constant flooding, inconsistent climate, etc)
Hindus view god as the very essence of the universe, a formless and genderless entity

how is it a religious belief if people are born with it: empathy and such

it isnt solid evidence of a higher power but it disproves that everything revolves around laws of nature

@tansel i mean think about pascal’s wager
If you believe in god the benefits heavily outweigh the risks, believing in god won’t cost you either way, but not believing in god could condemn you to an eternity of suffering

I think he means the idea consciousness proves the existence of god isn’t a very strong argument and can be waved away as faith

God looks at your heart and true intentions, God can easily see through your larp; you cannot cheat your way past God

If you’re concerned about intentions to begin with then you already believe in God, if you’re scared of him you already acknowledged his existence

i was trying to say that if your reason of believing in God is of purely logical deduction and not truly believing in God, then God can see it and know you dont actually believe in him. The option of believing in God as a logical gambit is not viable.

The wager itself isn’t proof of God it’s purely logic, reason can’t prove or disprove God’s existence, you must take a leap of faith

The wager itself isn’t proof of God it’s purely logic
i understand that the logic is based on the assumption that god exists and we have the choice of believing in him or not

i was just trying to say being i dont think being a smartass and half heartedly believing in God to avoid hell is possible because belief is black and white. you either believe in your heart or you dont in your heart. all in or all out. theres no putting some of my eggs in one basket and others on another
reason can’t prove or disprove God’s existence, you must take a leap of faith
reason cannot prove anything unless given information and evidence to work with

maybe we just arent given enough information
