Fair enough. It all depends on the media. In most Western fantasy they just look like attractive white people and in Chinese fantasy they just look like attractive asian people. In books, they are usually described as having "uncanny features" that are noticeable enough to distinguish them from any human ethnicity. In most of the original dnd art they look pretty weird and inhuman.and why would those ugly ones you posted be considered "proper elves"? they aren't real, elf iterations differ by every artist's choice, but most artists draw elves with white features and light coloring.
I always find the less human-looking depictions to be more interesting. Especially in video games and animated media. At the very least they need to "act" differently. The original lord of the rings movie got this part right. Elves that look or act too human ruin the suspension of disbelief.
