Had a long coach ride today and was thinking about jaw position and mewing, which I’ve been doing for 1.5 years now. and realised my lower jaw wanted to come forward and so I tried just jutting out me lower jaw and resting my teeth on each other. The muscles around were working at first and my teeth felt slightly sore but they’ve relaxed now. Then I’d move my teeth so they weren't quite touching. I’d assumed that my bite and default mandible position must be fine since my dentist said I didn’t need braces. Now I’ve realised she fucked me up. I just took a video of myself running through a few facial expressions and for the first fucking time ever my smile looks ok. It used to contort into this ugly mess but now it actual isn’t hard to look at. I still think I need braces to align some of the teeth and get rid of overlap though. At least now I can stop being insecure about how my smile looks in every damn photo. I’m sure this is all obvious to some people but it’s a revelation for me. Moral of the story is don’t trust your dentist to help you beyond basic function and health.
