The whispering is louder now, and it’s not just in the walls. I hear it when I step outside, in the rustle of tree branches or the drone of a passing car. I’ve started recording it on my phone to prove to myself it’s real. Every time I play the audio back, though, there’s nothing. Just silence.
It’s in my head. Or maybe it’s not.
This morning, the voices formed words. I heard them clearly.
"He's watching you."
Who's watching me? I checked every lock on the doors, every window latch. Twice. I don’t feel safe.
