I've discovered why I don't like chess

try Chess960 on chess.com (also referred to as fischer random or freestyle). No opening prep and early attacks are much more common as the opponent can start with an extremely weak king position. Basically a version of chess where IQ and gamesense (tactical play) matter more than principle.

Yes this is what I've been doing recently but also just been dabbling in other games like Hive and Quoridor

Chess is only fun past 2000 elo
nah chess peaks at 1700. After that its just long positional games and opening memorisation

i like playing checkers

Not officially but I have indirect measures

Mensa.dk 119

CAIT I got

VSI - 119
VCI - 119
FRI - skipped because my injury just made this task feel impossible
PSI - 124

Also did a online block design task which is identical to the real one and scored 129±3.9

All while suffering from significant cogntitive impairment and stress due to my neck injury

So can probably score higher on all of these if I was healthy

Also got tested in school and got a 122 on something but it actually wasn't an official IQ test sort of a proxy test to determine if I was special needs. Nonetheless they said it was above average but idk how directly it translates to IQ norms
Where is wmi?

In chess the better player is not the player who tried to win the hardest, it's the player who tries the hardest to not lose.

This creates a dynamic where the best approach to every game in chess is to simply sit back and wait for your opponent to make a mistake. Now this may be obvious to you chess players out there but it wasn't to me and now that I'm aware of it, I don't like it.
That dynamic only exists if you are bellow 1500 really. Like when I was trying to play my blitz chess up, all I had to do was play defensively and win because the opponents have 0 awareness. However when you play better opponents its more about making offensive stratigies, to some extent anyway. What makes chess annoying is that you have to pay attention way too much. LIke when I play over the board I preform about 300-400 rating better than I do online because I actually concentrate fully

Yes this is the same conclusion I've come to. The barrier to entry to actually start "playing" is quite high because the game is so brittle. One mistake and you can irreversibly destroy your position and this makes the game a stronger test of vigilance than intelligence until you have become so familiar with the game that mistakes are rarely made.

CAIT PSI is composed of symbol search and digit span so it is included in that score

I took some other WM tests recently and got a better result for WMI than what I got for digit span (don't remember the exact score)

Post in thread 'Corsi Block Tapping Task' https://looksmax.org/threads/corsi-block-tapping-task.1941079/post-27075470

I took the CAIT while in a very deficient state. The state I took these other tests wasn't great either but it was better
