Lets say I didn't believe in aliens (extra terrestrials). The last thing I would want to do is sit around with other like minded folks talking about how much I don't believe aliens, and constantly reminding everybody else that I don't believe in them.

The belief in God has much more influence in the society than the belief in aliens. And still, it's not true that most atheists hang around in atheist groups or constantly remind everybody that they're atheists.

I think it's you who doesn't understand what athiesm is. Sounds to me like you're describing folks who are agnostic. I know because I've lived in an agnostic society (mainland China) for many years. China's officially an "Athiest" society. If you were to ask most people they'd tell you they're athiest, but they're really just agnostic. To them God may or may not exist, but they don't care either way. All they care about is making money and having children to carry on their name. The existence of God is not something you hear debated in China. It's just a subject too boring to discuss.

Admitting you don't know something is much wiser than denying the existence of something when you have no proof. Athiests are foolish in this way. To deny the existence of God, instead of just admitting that you don't know, requires a person to have some kind of chip on their shoulder. It's a choice, the same way it is for those who choose to believe, but for athiests it's usually always a choice born from a deep seated resentment. For those who believe in God, their decision to do so has nothing to do with those who do not believe. Athiests on the other hand base their denial of God's existence on those who do believe in Him.



Why have a summer camp centered around a disbelief in God? Most summer camps are non-religious anyway.

There's no such thing as athiesm. There's only people who believe in a supernatural higher power, people who are agnostic (don't know/don't care), and people who are fanatically anti religious. Call it what you want, but athiesm is nothing more than a militant hatred for those who are religious.
