Sharkey actually was a good fighter in the late 1920s and 1930s who became the heavyweight champion. And he did beat some of the best black fighters of the time. Until he met Joe Louis. Joe Louis wasted him.



As good as Sharkey was, there are black fighters that came along later that I'm confident would have wasted him like Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, Anthony Joshua etc
