Many of my morphs are made with only the warp pixels tool. This is because it keeps the tonal range consistent. You don’t end up with inappropriate contrast for the photograph’s black level or exposure. Keeping the tonal range consistent imparts a solid foundation of realism to your morph. As soon as you dabble with increasing the darkest tone in your morph, it will become absurd.
And this is not my opinion. In the science of perception, it is the contrast between light and dark which enables our depth perception. Which brings me to the point.
The shadowy thing you added to the right cheek is way way way darker than any other part of his face. This makes no sense in a photograph, so it comes off as uncanny or stylised. Additionally, use LCH darkness when you are applying the mask. We are more sensitive to shade over hue, but don’t just discard that information, because with the LCH lightness blending mode you can preserve it.
