It isn't user friendly like that other repo i mentioned tho. You need to tweak certain settings to make it work for you but technically it's the best out there

In my view quant is extremely lucrative and hard to get into but if you do you'll make a shit ton of money but the main problem like you said is work life balance. Its not uncommon to have 80 hour work weeks in quant. A lot of people here romanticize quant on places because of the pay and prestige, but they don't always talk about the burnout rates. It's like that in most high finance roles. This is one of the reasons why people in quant only do it for a few years and then jump ship elsewhere. I've rarely seen people do it for more than a couple of years. Besides this the current market is rough compared to a few years ago, but strong CS students still have great opportunities everywhere

For me personally I chose tech because I have a passion for technology. This is what I always wanted to do in life and it makes me happy and it's a very chill work. You basically grind for a few hours everyday and the rest of the time you just pass your time doing stuff chatting on discord or scrolling through TikTok. Quant is personally not for me because I can't sit in a place and crunch numbers all day. And what I can tell you is that going from freelance worker with irregular income to making a good stable high paying salary is a huge difference already. But the $180k to $300k the gap is narrower. Its a bit like being in the no man's land. Not poor but also not rich. At $250K a W-2 earner bleeds 35 40% in federal and state taxes if in California plus payroll taxes. Every dollar is fully exposed to everyone. Once you move from W-2 to 1099/K-1 then it starts making difference imo which does happen in quant if they give you partnership

Most SWE at a good Fortune 500 or big tech company have good WLB and already live a very comfortable lives but it all depends on that nigga. Like I knew people in my uni enjoy the intensity, pressure, and game of maximizing compensation and if you are someone who wants to make enough money to retire at 30 then quant is obviously better and don't let me demotivate someone like you.
