Jaw exercise for hyoid bone

I tried doing the rapid jaw open/close exercise to raise the hyoid, but after 1-2 weeks my face felt very tight and the right side of my jaw hurt. Can this exercise cause TMJ or am i okay to keep doing it?

I've been getting jaw pain from it too. Sucks cause it actually does wonders
