Lots of crime. I knew several people who have been shot and killed. Certain parts are being gentrified, so more whites are moving in, but that’s more of the downtown area. Detroit used to be a white majority city prior to the 1970s. But after the riots in 1967, crime started going up alot and lots of whites moved to the suburbs and by the time the 1980s started, Detroit was a majority black city. Now, some of the children and grandchildren of the whites who moved away in the 60s and 70s are coming back to certain areas.

But the police are heavy in those gentrified areas because they don't want the crime to scare the whites back out to the suburbs because those whites are bringing tax money that the city badly needs. Most of the black people that live in the city are tax receivers while the whites are tax payers and businesses are coming back to those gentrified areas to cater to those whites who moved back. Which is more tax money for the city. So the cops are heavy in those areas
