- The Outpouring of the Spirit: Zechariah promises that God will "pour out... a spirit of grace and supplication". In Acts 2:17-33, Peter declares that the Holy Spirit has been poured out as promised, leading to a massive spiritual awakening.
- "Cut to the Heart": After hearing Peter’s sermon—where he declares, "this Jesus, whom you crucified" (Acts 2:36)—the crowd was "cut to the heart". This deep conviction and subsequent repentance mirror the "bitter mourning" described in Zechariah for the pierced one.
- Atonement & Cleansing: Zechariah 13:1 follows the mourning with the opening of a "fountain... to cleanse them from sin". In Acts 2:38, Peter invites the mourning crowd to be baptized "for the forgiveness of your sins," effectively directing them to that promised cleansing.
