I still remember that speech from some Vietnam veteran.
He explains how each person is broken down and minimized into his physical abilities, how obedient he is and how well he portrays his tasks.
Simultaneously every soldier is stripped of his own individuality and disciplined, almost „degraded“ into this formable husk.
That‘s also why a shaved head and strict dress code is mandatory.
The only „individuality“ lies on the squads that consist of multiple of these indentical soldiers, without working together they‘re nothing.
This not only boosts morale and teamwork but also gives a sense of „brotherhood“ since each lives and wellbeing are dependent on how well each of you cooperate together.
But under the guise of „muh equality and inclusion“ this is slowly being eroded to oblivion.
Lowered standards for women and minorities and also constant catering to their needs, destroy this „small ecosystem“ that made the military so successful during wartimes.
But yet I‘d say almost no war is worth fighting for, no matter what the stance of the military is.
TLDR: Almost everything that made the military worth joining has been removed in need to cater to minorities.

My great grandfather went to prison in France in early 1910s because he fought with some frenchmen, was in London when WW1 started and almost got into a fight with German soldiers during the occupation in ww2. When he was in the military he also kept harassing military officers just to be let out of the military back when it was mandatory just because he didn’t want to. But what did he do? He was at sea for years working hard
