I was shitposting every single day before my Final (16 Dec), I read the notes 2 days b4, didn't try a single question

B4 u go to community college

My uni rank is in the top 30s worldwide

Imagine studying lmao

Yes, it's a brag but nothing great really, Its not like l got A grade

I'm studying calculus 1. Do you study engineering?

Spaniard monkey tier comprehension skills

jfl in the shit university I go to most of calc 3 is teached in calc 2 and half of calc 2 is teached in calc 1 along with all the other calc 1 topics making those subjects extremely heavy content wise and having a pass rate of less than 15%, what is taught in calc 3 is not even taught in other countries calc 3.

The uni should fire the prof. I think u can teach calculas 1 and 2 together but teaching cal 3 in cal 2 is ridiculous.

But cal 3 is useless unless u want to become an engineer/mathematician/physicist etc

it's not the doing of a single teacher but the fault of whoever designed the degrees and subjects, engineering degrees at my university last 6 years and have a total class time of 4765 hours to a total of 300 credits and a mandatory thesis while in the us they have a total class time of 1900 hours distributed throughout 4 years coming to a total of 121 credits and they don't even have to do a thesis. average time of completion of an engineering degree at my university is 11 years although the program says it should take 6 years. the worst part is that after graduation, graduates here are looking at starting wages of 200-250 usd a month after having spent many years busting your ass off at university. the only upside is that the degree in some countries such as the us is taken as the equivalent of a bachellors + master even thought a bachellor + master in the us is only like 3000 hours of class time, if I had known this years ago I would have never gotten into this shit unviersity.

I forgot to add that math classes are filled with proofs as if you were majoring in math

Then I don't understand why you are complaining. A proof based math course mogs

for an engineer it's a waste of time
I see but it will improve your reasoning skills. I think IQ is fluid and doing mathematical proofs will increase your IQ.

If my cousin is a stacy, I don't give a fk nigger

Anyways, I don't think cousin marriages are terrible if it's a one off case. It's only a problem if you keep going in a circle 🤭

The calc sequence is a joke. Anyone can pass calc 1-3 IMO since it’s all algebra. The only abstract portion of the sequence is series which can quickly turn into a nightmare. Wait till you have to prove all of the calc 2-3 because then shit gets weird.

So many older engineers I have talked to have said that new engineers are shit because they don’t have the thinking from proofs/ don’t actually know how to do math. Proofs are required for engineering in most euro countries and help you more than doing a bunch of algebra.

I have studied proofs though ( cauchy sequence, epsilon delta stuff, chain rule proof, small O limit etc )

Cal 1 with proof. It's interesting though. If you understand the gist of the proof, u can get marks

Engineering is an applied discipline, the focus shouldn’t be on proofs imo although they do help thinking a lot

Yeah that’s really easy though. You’re just starting to learn the basis for all of calculus which is the concept of a limit. Calc 3 proofs are very weird though since continuity and the proofs for calc 1 need to be modified in very abstract ways.

Of course it’s applied, and you won’t be using proofs on the job. However proofs teach you how to actually ‘do’ math. It’s a different way of thinking compared to what you do on the job and compared to what an engineer does. I can honestly say since I did a math major I am way more competent than most engineers in terms of problem solving and learning anything new that is somewhat abstract or analytical. Every engineer should have some exposure with proofs at the basic level of proving calc 1-3 and basic linear algebra as well as differential equations.

it doesn't matter though because pretty much the only country where engineers are paid a decent wage and were it makes some sense to be an engineer is the us and there cs is a way better option, engineering is shit tier when it comes to effort to pay ratio. engineering is where the nerd loser go to under the lies that it pays well (it doesn't) otherwise almost no one would be going into engineering.

Yeah I don’t know what the pay is like for engineers outside of the US. If you’re only going in for money then CS, Finance or med is the better option. But even then, I still think taking some proof courses is very useful because of the thinking that is required. This type of thinking and abstraction made CS very easy for me, it also makes every other subject seem super elementary as well. Also every person I know who has ever been interviewed for top CS companies or finance companies must know a certain degree of advanced math. Your employers want to see how you think.

I fully agree with you on the proofs part. You don’t need to introduce how useful they are at training problem solving skills as I am very aware of that by studying mathematical finance myself.

A deep understanding of maths is a must in certain engineering disciplines, e.g. for rocket engineers at SpaceX working with cutting edge technology

But let’s be honest most engineers are gonna end up as glorified technicians, Excel monkeys sitting beside some production line somewhere. Math knowledge is certainly not a thing that will hold back those guys

yes, every other subject feels like drooling retard tier after having gone through 8 rigorous math subjects (i'm EE and CS double major)

Sure, when I think of engineering I think of chemical, mechanical and Aero since those are what I am familiar with. For very simple engineering jobs it is true that you are on site and proofs aren’t a necessity.

Yeah, math made CS a joke for me since you are basically using concepts from advanced math in programming. It’s just in the language of the computer.

Real analysis is over hyped

It's just the more autistic version of calculus , muh rigorous :feelsuhh: proof.

how were the older engineers doing financially?
