Imagine paying another man to fix your car
Dealerships will upsell you 99% of the time and third-party mechanics will do this too + even deliberately damage your car JFL

not only will doing general repairs on your own car (oil changes, brake jobs, spark plugs, coolant flushes, tire rotations etc.) save you up to thousands of dollars in maintenance costs a year, it's also a high T and classically masculine hobby. Swapping an engine was considered a rite of passage into manhood back in the day (before the industry got jewed and automobiles went from purely mechanical machines to almost entirely electrically based, making jobs of that scale nearly impossible for amateur mechanics).

"muhh i dont have time/money/dont want to get my hands dirty" stfu you effeminate lazy clowns

the time/money spent:money saved ratio is well worth it, especially considering a starter set of tools won't run you more than 200 bucks or so. All you really need is a socket set + basic hand tools (you probably have them lying around anyway) + a floor jack/jack stands and wheel chocks.

Tl;dr - start fixing ur own car
over @LastGerman @rightfulcel

I do not even have a car becuase I am literally too stupid to drive.

brutal driver license pill

cars are more proprietary and locked down now, as you said they are also more electrical, having the unwanted side effect of making it harder for the average person to perform maintenance or repairs on their vehicles

That's true, though basic maintenance repairs (e.g oil changes, tire rotations, fluid flushes etc.) on most gasoline/hybrid cars today can definitely still be done by the average person. I kinda went off on a tangent there, that really only applies to more complicated jobs like engine swaps/transmission rebuilds etc, which nowadays amateurs mechanics wouldn't be able to do like they used too

Obviously if you have an EV then basic repairs are off the table for the most part, although if you're the type of person to buy an EV you probably won't be getting your hands dirty + EV's don't need nearly as much maintenance anyway
