Some themes i noticed:

Luck and chance, ‘victor ludorum’ (the winner takes all)
The guy’s brother who gets shot but gets to go home and survive, the germans, the officers vs. the soldiers, sergeant. The guys who died in the ration party.
But even then, the lieutenant still dies, along with the sergeant and his men. The equality of these ppl under death, and how their deaths will haunt those who survive them

Ultimately, were all equal below death. Theres no escaping ur fate, no winning without consequence

Id like to watch the seventh seal next, from what ive heard it explores this theme to an even greater extent

Also another thing I noticed here is class divisions, which I suppose supports the theme this movie is tryna get across; that is, ‘victor ludorum’
Ngl, very blackpilled movie. Although i dont entirely agree w it

But the lieutenant dying was kinda a shift

Either way, rly well made movie. Very immersive tbh

Not perfectly historically accurate, but not bad at all. Better than most
