Salaries are sky high but only in certain industries. If you're in those industries domain is irrelevant. A 12yr (ie started before 2010) tenured gardener at Google will have total comp around 190k, 60k of which is salary, a 20yr tenured mid-senior accountant at Ford will have about 140k.

Adjust for Detroit vs bay area cost of living and those 2 amounts end up the same.

Moral is, unlike Europe, domain matters, not industry/expertise
