A personal case study i’ve conducted over the last 5 years with dedicated focus in the last year.
Being victim to mandible orthodontic compensation due to an underdeveloped maxilla caused me a Class 2 Skeletal malocclusion.
In 2020 i started mewing and slight jutting while in public (Upto 6 hrs/day) to make up for my recession before i even knew about forums.
Mid last year i came across them, and learnt about hardchewing, jaw clenching, and became educated and improved on mewing and jutting. I started implementing what i had learned: Daily hardchewing, proper mewing + jutting 24/7.
my day to day consisted of jutting quite literally 24/7 that it became subconscious, alongside 24/7 correct mewing, and hardchewing; Jaw clenching became a habit as a byproduct. (oblivious to TMJ, thankfully no issues).
RESULTS:
Jutting + mewing in all photos.
These are the results of hardchewing + Jutting heavily 24/7 daily in the span of 11 months - same bf%, no puberty/height spurts.
From late August 2025 to now i have experienced major positives and negatives that will be covered.
Positives:
To state the obvious, i spawned a lower third.
Changes:
Around 12mm of mandible protrusion
Around 3mm philtrum protrusion.
Significant chin protrusion; reduced lower lip crease.
Reduced nasiolabal folds + jowls.
Visibly reduced dorsal hump.
Lengthened philtrum.
improved facial thirds.
Slight improvement in orthodontic compensation.
However, major hindrances came as a byproduct.
Negatives:
FWHR became too long
Longer midface
More hooked, bulbous nose
Huge hypertrophy of masseters
- bad gonians
longer philtrum
Subjective negatives:
Bad IPD/ESR more prominent
Bad Lip - Nose ratio more prominent.
More prominent lack of Radix.
The huge hypertrophy of my masseters are extremely prevalent in the photo above, alongside more evidence of personal success.
Other reinforcing evidence displaying positives + negatives in this method.
Analysis:
Over the span of 11 months, 24/7 jutting and mewing, and hardchewing daily has been a huge success. Major improvements and developments in the wanted areas can be noticeably observed. However, there are risky negatives to this method as listed above.
Conclusion:
This should be used as a guideline rather than a necessity for a recessed mandible. It is subjective to differing facial flaws and areas that need improvement in each person; e.g. If you already have a long midface with slight recession it is not recommended to use this.
Hierarchical importance of improvements must be factored in and considered in determining if you will benefit more than be nerfed.
Footnote: Tired asf and rushed, i hope it is somewhat readable atleast.
