Starvemaxx, leanmaxx - call it what you will - may not be so great if you have a narrow lower third.

Studies show that 12% bf is the most attractive for men on average.

BUT don't lean down to 12% just because of that.

If you're like me your face may look better at 15% body fat. The reason being that I have a narrow lower third.

Most of the fat you lose when leanmaxxing is fat stored in the lower third of your face. Not your forehead, not your eye area.

While a narrow lower third is considered attractive among women, it's not considered attractive among men. The more you hollow it out by leaning down, the worse it will work against you.

So, let this serve as a reminder that you shouldn't autistically aim for a number like 12% bf, but what looks best on you personally and helps your features harmonise.

Sometimes that means going for a compromise, a less veiny body for a more attractive face - which is a good trade off IMHO.

Some people (including me) have to be lower than 12% body fat for their faces to look lean—because they’re recessed, naturally store disproportionately more fat on their faces, or both.

I probably need to be 5% just for my face to have a bit of angularity.

Yea good point. The opposite of what I described exists too.

And that's exactly why averages exist. Theres people who look better at 8% bf and people who look better at 15%.

depending on how much you care about maintaining muscle and what your body weight is, approximately a 200-500 calorie deficit and just let time do it’s thing. Aim to be losing 1 pound per week, ensure adequate protein, incorporate healthy fats, and supplements things like calcium that are essential to growth.

It is much more complex than a narrow lower third is unattractive and a wide lower third is attractive

Having a big skull and generally big bones allows you to be at a higher bf percentage though.

That’s why some generally boneless people like Kinobody need to be shredded to look those best. Even 15% looks bloated on him.

Depending on your age, if you’re 15/16 it’s incredibly unwise to starvemaxx unless you’re certain your growth plates have closed - However, if your growth plates haven’t closed, do a bunch of cardio heavy exercise and a 400 cal deficit, takes a good bit longer than starvemaxxing but safer all round

Do I have to track cals to know if I’m in a deficit?

Depends on your current BF honestly, if you're on the lower end for cutting (16% or so) i would recommend it ( you would need a more precise way to measure your meals) but if you find yourself on the higher end of the spectrum ( fat ) then i would recommend starting with a simple 3 meals a day, with no snacking in between times ( meals consisting of mainly protein and veg - smaller portion of clean carbs ) but as you get leaner you will plateau whenever you reach your bodies new maintenance, so track from there to get more lean if needed.
