I’m doing uni stuff and I noticed the very brief loading screen showed “Shibboleth”
At first I’m like “wtf no way that’s not some Cannanite demon or sum” especially with the logo (Can’t even blame me you know how hasidic universities are).
But yeah it had origins to that time period but it basically means a phrase or word used to distinguish people based on pronunciation, understanding, etc. One group in the bible trying to kill another group asked them to pronounce “shibboleth” but the other group incorrectly pronounced it as “sibboleth” so they were killed.
Or like in the army when Americans would ask one to pronounce “lollapalooza” but since Asians have a hard time pronouncing “L” they said “rorraparooza” so they were killed for being exposed.
I instantly thought of “mirin.” With mirin, some people pronounce it as “myrrh-in” instead of “my-rin” which ofc means you don’t know the pronunciation distinguishing you from like knowing internet slang of early 2010’s or sum.
Very interesting stuff man.
Learned a new word: Shibboleth
