would a Lefort I help to bring the mandible forward and fix a jaw thats in a backwards position? I might get either that or a double jaw surgery done in a few years.

Lefort 1 only brings the maxila foward, If you want jaw gains do both BSSO and Lefort 1 for maxila, If its very recessed I would recommend decompensation before with an orthodontist.

im more talking about if your lower teeth are trapped because of a recessed maxilla. for me it feels like my mandible is stuck in a backwards position and it’s more comfortable to jut a little.
also whats a decompensation

If your mandible feels like its being trapped backward because of a recessed maxila, advancing the maxila can sometimes allow the mandible to autorotate or sit more naturally. But Lefort 1 itself doesnt move the mandible forward. Decompensation means undoing the dental compensations before surgery so the surgeon can properly correct the skeletal issue.
