My life really was on the up and up at 23 years old. I was on my final year at university, oh so close to getting my law degree

Then my mother got sick.

I dropped out of university to look after her. Everyone told me I could go back when things settle down

But things never settled down.

She died two years later.

By then, I was 24 with no degree. No work experience. No job. No friends.

The only family I have now is my alcohol father, and some distant relatives who live 4000 miles away from me

I tried to start again, but nothing worked. My friends all graduated and moved on with their lives

Now I’m 27, turning 28 in 3 weeks.


I live alone in my shitty apartment, living off government welfare, spending most evenings staring at the TV

I’m tired. So tired.

People tell me, such as yourselves, that I’m still young. Maybe I am, but I don’t feel like it

I’ve given up as a person.
