"The 56-year-old actor claims Heard put a cigarette out on his right cheek and threw a bottle at him during a fight in Australia one month after their wedding in March 2015.

"On March 8, 2015, after learning of the existence of a post-nuptial agreement, Amber Heard committed one of her countless violent attacks against Johnny Depp," his lawyer, Adam Waldman, said in an emailed statement to USA TODAY on Friday.

Waldman said Heard threw a "bottle that severed the last third of (Depp's) finger" and burned "his face with a cigarette," requiring the actor to be hospitalized. "
