Lion’s Mane mushroom (Hericium erinaceus) has shown remarkable effects on cognition and neurogenesis. One of the most striking studies involved elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment: after taking 3g of Lion’s Mane daily for 16 weeks, participants significantly improved their memory and cognitive scores compared to placebo — and interestingly, their cognitive decline returned once supplementation stopped, suggesting a real, active neurotrophic effect. This is attributed to compounds like hericenones and erinacines that stimulate NGF and BDNF, promoting synaptic growth and neural regeneration.
