1. I dont like to do gay ass coloring just to get an interesting thread. Either read it, or dont.
Why a wide mouth is appealing?
As you all can see, having a wide mouth can drastically improve your appearance, but, this isn’t why we came to this thread. We know the importance of having a wide mouth, but the actual question is, HOW
So, there are two methods, lip cutting, and a Microstomia prevention appliance.
Method 1. Microstomia Prevention Appliance
For this method, it involves using the MPA and slowly increasing the size of the appliance until your desired shape. The issue is simply regarding whether it will cause nasolabial folds… and if it is even effective. The only problem is we actually lack evidence. Ill tell you what we have now.
So, the MPA is used for patients with burns, scars, etc. it has not been studied in a way that could actually be useful cosmetically (jfl they want us not to ascend). I could give you the whole reason of why it works, but no one gaf, so
SKIP if you just want to know how, not why
I’ll give you a short reasoning -> sustained tension outwardly to the oral commisues. This is very effective in burn patients as it can disable scar contractures and even increase the size.
Study 1: 83 burn patients -> using MPA prevented contraction except for one
Research: expansion prosthesis for the sole person of stretching the commisures or however tf u spell it.
Study 2: MPA can enlarge a mouth that has contracted, showing it can do more than just prevent shrinkage. One splint produced 14mm of opening.
So, theoretically, this would work, but the problem is, in a person that doest have any scarring, there is literally no evidence. So this is where 9k(what im called) has to use his head, and give u jesters what i think.
I do think widening is actually reasonable, the MPA proved that you can, and the research also proves it, so that i do believe. The only two questions we have left to answer are, how much gains are possible and if they are permanent, and that’s where it bc a bit different,
My hypothesis:
Widening the mouth is possible. But not to the extent (10-14), though we rlly only need 6-7mm. Our skin/tissue/ vermillion, is not representative of the functions of a rubber band. It actually can remodel with increased and sufficient and with enough time. This is smth that is a known fact, so there are a few studies but i didnt have time to read them but here bc this is just smth we know for a while
Source for jesters:
Guo, Yaotao et al. “Mechanical Stretch Induced Skin Regeneration: Molecular and Cellular Mechanism in Skin Soft Tissue Expansion.” International journal of molecular sciences vol. 23,17 9622. 25 Aug. 2022, doi:10.3390/ijms23179622
Our second reasoning:
Since we know it can change, and we also know that the region of the perioral is also responsive to this mechanical tension seen in the past studies, BUT the extent to which is very skewed as we have only seen this in scarred mouths.
Yet, another recent study found that if there is a low load of stretching there can be changes in the face with chronic burn contractures, but that tissue was alr revamped, so YES, you can change the face!
Hypothesis -> lateral mechanical tissue to healthy tissue on the commisures, that was sustained and not too weak but not to drastic, would cause visoelastic creep (i think that was the process my AP bio / Chem teachers wld use), which wld lead to mechanotransudiction (did this for a lab at Yale acc) and some cell pathways that would remodel the ECM that would lead to some length.
But, its not just skin on ur mouth there’s other pathways.
So, a small permanent increase is possible, but not to like 14mm. So this is one way, but u wldnt have wider lips, jut longer lips. I suggest 3-5mm maybe more. Depends on specific human
Oh also here’s another study
NOW that science is out the way, this is actually how to widen them
- burn patients have used 1 hr twice daily, some 6hrs a day, others 10-15mins for 2-3 days.
- low chance of worsening nasolabial folds through this procedure
The routine:
1. Go to local library ->
www.tinkercad.com
3d print this
Print this. Print in various sizes.
Then, wear one you can wear that is slightly big but u can still fit.
Do 30 minutes and increase by 5 mins each day till at 1 hr
2. Once at 1 hour, do it again with the second one, once at 1 hr, wear for two weeks TWICE daily. Then repeat this process. This allows the tissue to expand but not too much to the point it isn’t harmful.
Risks: there really isn’t much. We are only targeting a +1-2 mm after 4-8 weeks. Measure the width of lips each day and track it. We dont want repeated micro-injury, such as persistent redness, bleeding, swelling, ulcerations, etc, as that is evidence the experimental load is potentially to high. This is a calm routine. Adjust per human as it is different. So essentially after 5-6 months we wld see an increase of 3-4-5-6 mm. Again, all SUBJECTIVE on person. I wld also use Tretionin on this for other reasons too long to write.
Mouth Cutting:
Im very sad about mouth cutting. I honeslty thought it would be more risky, but more rewarding than the splint but i unfortunately cant find any evidence. While i have see numerous threads on people mouth cutting, for a high IQ thread, i want to do it based on actual science and not just DIY.
I do believe DIYs do work, but i just could not find the scientific biology to actually support how, or even how to do it properly. The reasoning is. Making a small cut and letting it heal is that the mouth has several muscles that the surgeon has to reposition and is not just simply cutting. This could lead to a plethora of issues: scarring, asymmetry, drooping, narrowing, etc, and infection.
Not only but I’ve tried mouth cutting, it fucking hurts and i was too pussy to undergo the several cuts to actually see results. Also, a person doing it isn’t gonna have the prescision. I do believe it works but unfortunately the evidence out there is shit, and not only that, the DIY threads dont offer us much. Simply seeing results a few weeks later doesnt really matter, as asymmetries can occur weeks months later etc. for mouth widening through the appliance, we have the secondary research to back it up. Yet regarding cutting, we dont have commisurory(the surgery of widening mouth) as a proper substitute due to the variability and different mechanisms. For this, im asking anyone experienced with proper long term results without scarring to chime in on mouth cutting. Dm me,i would love to add to this portion of the thread.
