GSK-3β (glycogen synthase kinase 3-beta) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in various biological processes, including the regulation of cell growth, proliferation and differentiation. In the context of bone growth plates and general bone physiology, GSK-3β plays a key role in the regulation of chondrogenesis, osteogenesis, and bone remodeling.
Role of GSK-3β in growth plates and bones: Regulation of osteogenesis (bone formation): • GSK-3β inhibits the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, which is the primary mechanism stimulating bone formation.
• Inhibition of GSK-3β activity (eg, using inhibitors) activates β-catenin, which promotes the differentiation of osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) and increases bone mineral density.
So, what drug can inhibit that gene?
