Great movie, but really fucking sad.
I really like Studio Ghibli.
It's about 2 orphaned children, a boy around 15 years or so of age and his very young sister, trying to survive during and after the second world war in japan.
Emphasis on trying to survive.
This isn't spoiling it tho, as the movie makes it clear from the very start atleast one of them succumbs to their fate and dies
Pretty gut wrenching.
But really beautiful.
I won't spoiler tho, unless yall want a more extensive description.
The movie is based on a real story of Akiyuki Nosaka who lost his younger sister to malnutrition in the final stretch of the war, tho it deviates very very much. I'd say it's inspired by it, not based on.
For me personally this movie is also pretty touching because my grand other lived through very similar experiences of malnutrition and having her house (and whole city, which was nothing but a population centre and not a fucking military target) firebombed by the english in february of 1945.
This scene is a spoiler, but it is a good scene. Would only watch if you have watched the movie tho. Might also be good to see if you aren't sure yet, as the movie would still be enjoyable after having watched this scene.
