Yeah my brother tried to get me watch One Piece, I really hated it and thought it was shit, I was anti-anime for a loooooooooong time, then one day I decided to watch a live-action of an anime and then decided I wanted to watch the anime instead.. so eventually I started liking anime, but I like One Piece as well but you're right: it's way too long. Episode 1046 just came out I think and I am now at episode 1036. I watched a shorter version of One Piece that removes all fillers. Now I enjoy it a lot.

I haven't watched Naruto and I don't plan on watching it. I'm really selective when it comes to anime so I'll watch a few only. I am also looking into Demon Slayer. And some sports anime.
