[HIDEPOSTS=100] Hello everyone.
I think my philtrum is too long. It makes my mouth sit too low on my face and make it look worse. In the first pic my mouth is relaxed.

I'm considering getting maxillary impaction, but I've read that you need to have a gummy smile and I dont, as I show a normal amount of gum when smiling.

Can anybody advice me what to do please, besides roping/an heroing (I'm trying to improve myself first).

Not sure on that but your narrow mouth is hurting you. Need to do mouth widening.

Can I do it myself or do I need surgery for that?

People here got results from mouth widening appliances they made. There should be posts on it.

I'll search about it. Thank you for the advice.

I got a really long philtrum myself, that shit is a death sentence. Funnily enough, i have vertical maxillary deficiency so to me it makes no fcking sense.

Btw, impacting your teeth won't reduce the height of your philtrum, there is no surgical way (except for lip lift) to reduce the length of your philtrum. If you get a bimax with enough maxillary advancement, it might give the illusion of it being shorter if it's pusged forward enough, but you don't want to get chimpaxxed.

Your case doesnt make any sense. Where the length comes from then, if your upper maxilla is short?

About impaction, I know the skin of the philtrum wont decrease, but my teeth will meet X mms up from where they are now, same thing with the lips, so it should effectively decrease lower third length. In my case in a relaxed state my lips dont touch (there's a 5mm gap aprox), so that would mean that after impaction they should touch when relaxed. I'm just guessing.

Yea, id didn't know you had lip incompetence, then yes impaction would make sense.

Long philtrums actually make you show less gum/teeth. This makes sense because there is more soft tissue covering the maxilla

People with very short philtrums have the opposite effect, and show more teeth because of this, regardless of the maxilla length

Nessman has a gummy smile with a very short philtrum and average maxilla height

I think certain people with longer philtrums have longer maxillas due to downward growth, though it is definitely still partly genetic. If you were to get a lip lift your smile would become gummy

Maybe I didnt express myself correctly. When I said long philtrum I was referring to the fact that my upper maxilla is too long. Naturally the soft tissue adapted to the extra length of the bone because one has to be with the mouth closed most of the time so the philtrum stretches as required. But the problem here is excess bone. The only solution for me is maxillary impact. I'd get it right away if I had the money, but its very expensive. A lip lift wouldnt do anything more than make me look like an idiot, showing my whole upper teeth at all times and with the lower face height remaining too long.

sorry bro no sane surgeon will ever perfom maxillary impaction with a gummy smile as it would only mess up the soft tissue.
