I'm not talking about looking at trends and statistics when trying to analyze whether a certain form of medicine is efficacious or whether certain groups of people tend to commit more crimes. That is all fine and useful.
I'm talking about looking at a stat, applying it to yourself, and then telling yourself that you have a "low chance" of making it because you fall into a particular group or that most people don't get the things you want. Once you do this, you have already failed. Because anything that is worth achieving will have a "low" % rate of winning. Once you start obsessing over this stat, you are basically accepting that you are average and that the result of your life will be average. You are basically giving up.
The whole point in achieving something is to not be a stat, to stand out by definition. Stats don't mean shit unless you believe they do.
There are two types of people in this world. One type looks at an "exception" and thinks "oh wow, so there is no rule preventing me from achieving something". Another type looks at an "exception" and thinks "well, exceptions don't disprove the rule. It is over for me.". If you are of the latter kind, aka the majority of the forum, just rope already since you are no more useful than cow manure.
Exceptions do disprove a rule. Rules are exceptionless. Gravity is a rule. Stats aren't.
