Most people in this space overexaggerate the importance of psychical appearance.
"Looks are everything" is such a flawed belief, if you have an IQ above room temp then this is water. Looks are only one piece of the puzzle when it comes to social life, relationships, and overall quality of life. They are a great stepping stone but they don't alone grant you everything like people make them out to be.
Obviously looks are very important but if you don't have the other vital metrics like social skills, status, money, and (even if you think it's a meme) personality.
High school is probably the most common example of looks being outclassed by another metric (status). Yes, looks contribute to popularity but this isn't the case as much as it's portrayed.
With that said, I'd still say ages 19-30 is about the range where looks matter the most. People matured from the high school popularity contest, and then at the other end, after 30, money starts playing the biggest factor as looks begin to deteriorate as people age, as well as money being more of a necessity at this point in life.
Regardless, being well balanced and simply high value will take you further in life than good looks will alone (unless you are model level beauty obv).
Stop over-emphasizing the importance of looks
Main takeaway from this thread is that becoming over-obsessed with looks is an easy trap to fall into but, simultaneously maxxing out other important metrics is what I believe to be the key to dating/social success. You can say I'm coping but I am living proof of this theory.
