There is a company called Nucleus Genomics that has recently started creating babies with this new technology, and this should absolutely frighten you if you are rather young. They claim that through embryo analysis, they can screen for certain genetic traits such as height, hair color, eye color, and worst of all IQ. If the technology is as effective as they claim, this would be detrimental to any child born recently, as they would have to compete with the genetic elite, therefore making their genetics, on average, worse.
My concern is the IQ screening. If every child born is predetermined to be as smart as possible, the average IQ would skyrocket, making the already hypercompetitive job market for OUR generation overrun by people who were hand selected to overtake us, effectively making most of our generation obsolete and dead weight.
The price per embryo is around $2,000 (around $40,000 for standard 30 embryos) but is set to come down, as is pretty standard for any cutting edge technology.
In conclusion, we’re all fucked lmao. And if you were planning on having a kid anytime soon, I’d refrain or take out a loan for the sake of your child’s future.
they also scan for diseases and lifespan but who really gives a shit about that JFL
