Looks like I might be getting MARPE in 2027.

I’ve been doing Invisalign, and my orthodontist told me that if everything goes according to plan, once I finish the treatment I’ll probably be a good candidate for MARPE because I have a relatively narrow palate.

She’s actually pretty blackpilled when it comes to things like mouth breathing, malocclusions, tongue posture, narrow palates, airway issues, etc., so she takes all of that very seriously instead of dismissing it like a lot of orthodontists seem to do.

She explained that the idea would be to finish aligning my teeth first with Invisalign and then, if everything is stable, use MARPE to expand the maxilla.

I’m honestly pretty excited because I’ve seen a lot of mixed opinions online. Some people say it noticeably improves nasal breathing, tongue space and overall facial harmony, while others think the aesthetic changes are minimal.

For those of you who have actually had MARPE as an adult, how was your experience?

• How old were you?
• Was the expansion successful?
• Did you notice better nasal breathing?
• Did your cheekbones or midface change at all?
• Was the diastema worth it?
• Would you do it again?

I’d be interested in hearing real experiences rather than just before/after photos. My orthodontist thinks I’m likely to benefit from it if my Invisalign treatment goes well, so I’m trying to gather as much information as possible before making a decision next year.
