I’ve noticed that a lot of women who are into manga often say that Japanese manga for men usually feature some “average guy” ending up with an attractive girl. But when you actually look at these so-called average guys, they usually have pretty balanced facial features, good neoteny, and none of the unflattering traits you’d typically see in real people.




They're not supermodel-tier or drawn like the yaoi guys in manga for women, but they’re still far from being truly average by real-life standards. It’s kind of funny, actually. Every attempt to show that “men have unrealistic fantasies too” falls apart when you objectively look at how these characters are designed. It honestly feels like a projection (like how in Beauty and the Beast, the Beast still has tall height and a facial structure that aesthetically pleases oneself). Until the moment I see some gnome appreciation, I will honestly just internally roll my eyes when I hear stuff like this.
