Looksmaxxing is Emancipation
It’s well-researched that looks affect virtually every domain of life: you name it…professional outcomes, social dynamics, romantic access, how you’re treated by strangers. Your own experiences confirm this anecdotally: the genetically blessed guy with terrible character who cleaned up in middle school, or the way you’re treated differently depending on how you look on a given day. Anecdotal and scientific evidence don’t diverge much here… in fact , They converge.
The logical first step is to accept this as the working hypothesis, that is unless counter-evidence forces a revision. That’s how science operates - you build a case for a theory through accumulated evidence (positivism), and then you stress-test it, attack it, try to dismantle it rather than treat it as settled final truth (falsificationism). As of now, the thesis holds: looks matter, consistently, across contexts. I champion this thesis until I’m proven wrong with good evidence but even if evidence showed otherwise, on my reality , looks matter
My following statement is clear : Looksmaxxing is emancipation. It’s emancipation for the unheard, the dismissed, the ones who lost at a game they didn’t know they were playing. We were only kids , teens. We don’t know anything
Looksmaxxing gives people back some pride and access to domains of life they were quietly locked out of .. not through failure of character or effort, but through sth they couldn’t change , ie looks .
Saying all this….
The irony is sharp because looksmaxxers are routinely portrayed in mainstream media as misogynistic, racist, nihilistic… essentially men with no values beyond aesthetics. This framing is almost a perfect inversion of reality. The people benefiting most from lookism ( Epstein type of people. Rich CEOs banging girls, politicians that only guck good looking prostituyes, OF Girls who don’t produce anything or are not productive etc) who’ve enjoyed its fruits in abundance their whole lives are the ones looking down on those who are simply trying to close the gap.
The looksmaxxer ascending from social invisibility to basic dignity is doing something deeply human. He deserves that access the same as anyone else. If all looksmaxx and nobody is special anymore , that would be interesting . I am sure we’re heading there: to a brave new world.
But looksmaxxing is also a second kind of emancipation that I (although I have the means to buy these services) as a DIY lioksmaxxer see … and that is freedom from an industry that has monetized insecurity for decades.
Fore example Cosmetic surgeons from breast augmentation, to rhinoplasty, laser procedures etc l are among the highest-earning doctors in the world, often performing procedures of moderate technical complexity at premium prices. Filler , Botox etc are not really complicated . And no, a medical degree is not superior here , what docotor runs foto imaging on your face to detect any veins , arteries etc before he inject radiesse into your chin??
The prices are way too high and nobody is stopping this industry because insecurities have no financial limit people will sped. Whatever it takes
The beauty and aesthetics industry runs on making people feel deficient, then selling them the solution. Looksmaxxing short-circuits that. It offers often evidence-based, often free or low-cost paths to genuine improvement, without the intermediary taking a cut. Yes there is bs but name one field of life without bs.
The good thing is that Long term only evidence bases solutions survive. Sooner or later bs like Aqualyx into the nose or voluffiline under eyes will get chipped while high ROI solutions like losing weight will stay here forever
AI has accelerated this whole development further. Someone with basic scientific literacy (and ironically low iw people are encouraged to avert looksmaxxing) now has access to more synthesized, current evidence than any single consultant or aesthetic physician could hold in their head. No human reads and retains the entire literature.. That’s a genuine democratization of knowledge that was previously gatekept behind expensive appointments and credentialed gatekeepers.
Looksmaxxing isn’t vanity. It’s leverage taken back by people who were never supposed to have it.
