When I first came to Reddit 5 years ago, it took a while for me to "understand" it, but I grew to love it and created an account to be a part of the community 3.5 years ago. However, over the first year of joining, my opinion of it slowly started to change. I find myself hating it and its community more and more everyday, and yet I keep coming back. This website has warped my view on the internet to the point where nothing else seems to have such consistently entertaining content.

My main problem with the site are its users. At first I found the negativity to be a bit light hearted, but damn. A lot of you guys are some evil motherfuckers. It's so ironic how the community boasts itself as accepting of all people and a refuge of sorts for the underdogs, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I know this isn't an original thought because I see people calling out the hypocrisy of the users in every thread, but the amount of people calling it out is minuscule compared to the hateful population. Sadly, the latter seems to grow day by day.

Aside from the hypocrisy and negativity, it seems like this site is in a rat race to create a new meme to go viral. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to escape this any time soon because it appears this "meme/viral" thing has become a part of culture outside of the internet (just look at how all forms of advertisement are nowadays).

Anyone else feel this way? What else about Reddit seems to bug you? Have you found any other websites either with better content or, more importantly, a friendlier community? I'm about ready to just give up on the internet all together. It seems to be a breeding ground for hate and a way for angry and negative people to unleash their emotions.
