How many of you work for yourself? Anonymous 07/22/20(Wed)09:06:09 No.1869661 [Reply]

Graduated college then did 5 years of dead end white collar work, and then 5 years of hell in the oilfield, now I'm 30 and need to start fresh. I've wanted to work for myself since i started haying fields at 15, and now that i've got some savings and no job i figure it's time to just do the damn thing.

Heres some ideas i'm mulling over:
>cabinet painting
There's always going to be people who want to revamp their kitchen, and refinishing is a fraction of what new cabinets cost.
Fairly low equipment costs, just will need a legit spraying setup and rent a climate controlled workspace for the painting/drying. Also low impact on the body.
>landscaping
there's a seemingly endless amount of landscape guys out there, but most of them are greasy guatemalans or meth heads so being professional could be an advantage.
Considered doing something more niche like only using "green chemicals/products" and marketing to the rich suburban moms who buy all the organic stuff at Whole Foods
>land management
My dream would be to have an excavator and do stuff like land clearing, stumping, rock moving, etc. I'm in the North East so tons of rocks and trees. But at this point buying an excavator/truck/trailer would take every last penny i have and not wanting that much risk.
You guys have any other ideas? Appreciate any input
