is a lower jaw expander a common thing? i’m 14 and have a narrow lover jaw with a bit of crowding and a slight overbite so i was thinking of getting a herbst appliance and a lower jaw expander. is it worth it?

Ask your dentist. Idk about lower jaw expander but you can also get theeth removed.

Your mandibular suture fuses at year 1 of birth. A traditional palate expander cant do that without an open suture.


The only way to expand the lower palate is with self ligating braces, yet it won't expand the palate, just widen the dental arch. Your jaw will still be the same size, compared to an upper palate expander which changes the entire Midface.
